Marriage
In Rajasthan, marriages are considered as one of the most important
ceremonies in anyone's life. People prefer to search their soul mate in
their own community. Once the alliance is established the groom family sends
to the brides the wedding dress and the 'aar' necklace.
It is traditional to take one's marriage vows by walking round the holy
fire seven times. During the wedding bride's face is kept veiled. Dancers
entertain outside other guests, who form the barat- a procession that
accompanies the groom to the bride's home, and a feast is spread for them.
Kajli Teej
Kajli teej is celebrated on the third day of the month Bhadra
(July/August). Seekers of conjugal bliss and happiness worship goddess
Parvati. Rituals and ceremonies performed in this festival are different
from the usual teej festivities that give it a distinct touch. An exuberant
procession of teej in a decorated palanquin is a treat to the eyes.
Though the teej procession is carried out for only two days, the
festivities continue till the eighth day, finally ending on Janmashtmi, the
birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Rituals that are performed in this
festival carry a distinct touch in every region. Cultural performances by
the local artistes as well as by artistes from Hadoti region are part of the
celebration.
