Visitor's note about
Agra
Agra- the city of Taj Mahal was a special place to explore. There is
something special in the air of Agra that speaks about its glorious past. I
was overwhelmed with the first sight of Taj Mahal and tours to
Itmad-Ud-Daula's tomb and Agra fort made my stay absolutely unforgettable.
Today I am leaving this great city only with a firm desire to return back
here very soon.

Taj Mahal, Agra India

The
day started with a visit to Taj Mahal- an edifice, which I always wanted to
explore. The incredible building was like a precious marble box inlaid with
beautiful stones. I along with a Japanese guy headed towards the north
entrance gate to watch the sunrise. The inner courtyard opens from an
archway lined walkway into greenness.
The beautiful details taken on the Taj made me speechless. Mughal floral
patterns and Arabic writing adorn the arches, the flowers beautiful blues
and reds of lapis lazuli, turquoise. I thought the Taj was all white but the
subtlety of color was the best surprise. I left the place but kept looking
back at it from my cab's window till the time it disappeared completely from
my eyes.
Itmad-Ud-Daula's tomb
I had seen the similar structure at Lahore that was also built by Nurjahan
for Jehangir. The tomb, however was a delight to look at. The inlay designs
and carvings were no less than the same at Taj Mahal but it was the
beautiful marble lattice work that gave it a distinct charm.
By the time I completed the visit to this beautiful architectural wonder,
it was late night so I returned back to the hotel savoring the memories of a
day well spent.
Agra Red Fort

Next
morning I headed directly to the Red Fort en route paying a short visit to
Taj Mahal again. The mammoth fort had a variety of attractions including
Diwan-E-Aam, Diwane-E-Khas, Octagonal Tower, Jehangir Palace, Mina Masjid,
Moti Masjid, Sheesh Mahal and Golden Pavilions.
Shopping at Agra
Exploring the extremely colorful markets of Agra was a great experience. I
bought replicas of Taj Mahal as souvenirs for my friends and relatives. But
the leather items including leather chappals (sandals), purses, bags and
other decorative items were just irresistible.
